Well, the Fireworks Didn't Go Over Too Well

We decided to keep Independence Day low key and stay at home. Mostly because mommy was just feeling tired and lazy and fat and didn't want to navigate crowds with a big belly. Thankfully, this was the right decision! Not only because Rhianwen hated the noise of the fireworks that we did do, but also because it rained torrents at just the time the fireworks would have gone off at a show.

The sparklers weren't so bad...

We had set off an M60 and a string of firecrackers before this video, which is why she looks so upset. She's been talking about it ever since...poor oo. But she is SO matter-of-fact about it now, as if it doesn't bother her to remember it. Just that she does remember it. After the fireworks were over, Rhianwen slid off my lap and high-tailed it to the house saying, "Fireplace DONE!" I didn't get this captured in the footage below b/c my computer is acting haywire and dropping frames like crazy (hence all the transitions too...sorry!).

Wally's family has a tradition of picking blackberries on July 4th and making blackberry cobbler. So, since the berries were right in our backyard, we did this too. This, unlike the fireworks, was a hit with Rhianwen, although she much preferred the ice cream to the cobbler. Talk about easy to make; Southern Living had a quick recipe, and it was good too! (Are you tired yet of hearing about our blackberries?) :)

Digging in.

Rhianwen really enjoyed the extended weekend with Daddy. He introduced her to the highly addictive world of gaming. She even got to play a bit of a FIFA soccer game.

On the edge of their seats!

In the world of Alden, we are just waiting around. I've stopped gaining weight (hooray!), so I guess I am as big as I will get. So we took a belly picture on Sunday to catalog how big I am. At yet another appointment today, Alden is doing well, heartbeat great (gets faster when he moves...good) and I'm doing well too. No signs of pre-eclampsia. The doctor actually told me to do a lot of walking...and other things. I had convinced Wally all that was old-wives' tales. Hm. Well, it is, according to What to Expect. I'm just glad we made it through the holiday weekend! Tonight our friend Mary volunteered to watch Rhianwen so we could go out to eat. We took her up on her offer and went to the Twisted Noodle, a Thai restaurant. Boy was it good! We had Thai during a Lamaze class when I was pregnant with Rhianwen, and it's always been a good memory. So, we decided to make it a tradition for every baby.

  1. I think you need to be a bit bigger. So may be he won't come until next week ;-( .

I was waiting to see her dig in to the cobbler but alas your movie ended before hand. How many bushes do you have anyway??

I don't blame Rhi's reaction to the firecrackers especially. I hate firecrackers---I mean the kind with the loud sounds that sound like a machine gun .

  2. I'm glad to hear you all got a chance to go out. Did it feel like your "last meal?" :-)

Also, can I come over and play video games with Wally? Kidding.

  3. You look great Eowyn! I'm glad you aren't having the preeclampsia problems this time around. Can't wait to see baby Alden. I've been keeping you in my prayers.

  4. You look fabulous! You look like you are just playing at being pregnant with a basketball under your shirt. You don't look like you have gained weight anywhere else.

The video refused to play for me. I'll have to try again later I guess.

  5. You look beautiful! My family concurs with the blackberry recipe in southern living. They like it better (well, as much as anyway) blackberry pie. I've made it twice this week. we're praying for you all! Exciting times!

  6. Yes, I'm tired of hearing about your cobbler, because now I really want some. From now on, no writing about yummy food that you don't send me...

I love the videos, and can't wait until there are two little cuties in them! (This Saturday, I say.)

  7. Heh heh. Thai for every baby, eh? Not a bad idea. You're going to end up with a bunch of squinty eyed kids who love spicy food... I'll probably get sued for that...

  8. You look gorgeous!! Glad things are going well. I wish we could have some of your blackberries. We're planning to plant some next year. We're sticking with our blueberry bush for now. Can't wait to hear the news. :)
